A lifetime with horses

From the Founder---

During my lifetime with horses --I developed such a love for the animal, -a love I try to pass along to others. Raised with horses & horse people who were 'fun' to be with, the horse provided the reason to gather, share, and care. Quiet time was spent grazing, grooming, or watching others groom. It was a simple comfort of observing a loving task, and the immediate response of the horse, who enjoyed the attention. Riding seemed to be -the 'natural' thing to do, -just riding for pleasure. The horse show, was a 'good time' for all. To sell a horse was a sad thing, -yet a 'new' horse got all of the attention. The older horses, retired to a family with a child they tended to.

Time passed, and riding lessons were now the 'thing to do'. Everyone seemed to ride, and horses were seen everywhere. Horse shows that were fun were now more competitive, more game. The sport became brutal, as horses & riders were pushed to their limits. And riders were taunted into riding extremely tough courses. And horses, were becoming a means to an end, --the thrill of a spill, a near miss, --the tragic accident. All for the excitement of the crowd, -paying or not. The end became vicious, when the limits-- were pushed with drugs, and extravagant insurance claims, --the untimely death, ---for the big payoff. The joy of the horse -now becoming big business, for big bucks and greed. Like another widely feared cancer, spreading in a society --that knows greed well! Many a horse, has fallen, --victim to the times, --and to man.

This magnificent animal, --given to share our life, and to serve us, --give us joy . Now, a pawn or token of ownership and wealth. That is, -for the lucky ones. Others had to take the fall. The horse took neglect, abuse, ignorance, and mishandling, -with all the integrity they had to give.         Changing homes, -environments, -purposes, and -technique.  They reacted in their ‘natural’ ways, -and that, was taken as a sign of bad behavior, and man brutally forced the arm of control, over this animal who now feared humans, and --- not being understood. They tried to escape from those who inflicted pain, and got beat for it. And sadly, the next trip was to the slaughterhouse, sold for a final fee, to not waste the flesh.

        The horse, either gifted with a loving home, -or, sold, from person to person, just like foster kids, -will suffer shock, loneliness, fears, and memories. The horse, like any human being, -can suffer from the abuse of others.

         Their wounds are like our own, physical, mental, and emotional.

                                Their deepest injury is to their ---wounded 'spirit'.

Yet, the spirit of the horse lives on, in the hearts, and minds of those who dream of them.

Their beauty, their pride, their 'knowing' the secrets ---of this awesome life.

They know Gods purpose for them, and they `believe it' -every moment in time.

The horse, --a gift from our highest powers, --a reminder of our Ultimate Gifts,

-the joy of life itself, ---and gratitude for the opportunity to live it!

They are gifted to us, --so we can learn to live, love, to share our gifts, -to help each other.

But, --------have we?

And, God Bless anyone --who treats the horse with kindness!
