CHEMICAL EMOTIONS  --or CORPORATE RAPE

Many riding clients are bottled up with nerves, frustrations, and water re-'tension'.  Not only do we coaches have the physical to work with, we have the emotional as well.

Too often, our clients are victims of junk food, what we call "Corporate Chemical Rape’.  They are ingesting preservatives, food coloring, additives (addictives) and all other kinds of things to make food taste good, and make us crave them.

Business is also responsible for subliminal advertising. The quick flash of words, or pictures on the television, to get our thoughts on the products, their business plan to sell.

Emotions can run high for victims of abuse, etc. -and with the additional baggage of added chemicals, and their side effects (i.e., bloating), that we are consuming.  We then compound our own problems, or issues that we must get past.

First the client must realize that ‘something' is wrong, and they must want to find it, to be rid of it.

It is a difficult task to empower an individual who has found any kind of comfort in their current position or situation of daily junk food.  We must find a way to ‘bump’ or nudge that addictive desire out!

When teaching or coaching riding, it may become necessary to push a particular client to the limits of discomfort, to help them get the inner fears, and the hidden agenda of hidden stressors out.  This can even mean their tears of fear and frustration will come to wash away those sudden memories of hurts a long time ago.  This is very freeing, when it happens because we just keep moving forward so not to dwell on the past.  Then --that memory is gone!

IMPORTANT!  Just before their discomfort makes them ready to dismount, we must stop what we are doing, and face the client, and keep talking to distract them.  In a caring way, begin to back away again, to restart a couple of minutes after the rider seems ready.  Great caution is needed, as this could be the end of all sessions -if this is handled improperly!  Trust from the client, is crucial, as is the support of your ‘friendship’!  Don’t make any mistake.

The rider is ‘afraid to let go’ of the 'e-motions' that have been stuffed away, hidden and protected from memory.  That is the job of the brain --so we do not get hurt by remembering what is hurtful.  Clients begin to realize their hidden memories were a behavior that has become a habit!  Those memories are now ‘screaming’ to get out this time, for good.  Clients recognize something is not right!  The Consultant/Coach's timing is critical.  If clients relax too long, they might get too confident.  The point here, is to keep them on a gentle edge, until the tears start to show themselves.  They have needed to come out, even if only momentary!

To help this client cry, not in fear --but in submission to those ‘stuffed emotions’ is a very delicate process, and must be handled by an experienced consultant or therapist,  who not only know the client, but the horses, as well.  Nothing CAN go wrong!  The Consultant/Therapist/Coach must be in TOTAL control at ALL times.

This is a good time to mention that anyone in therapy, would benefit by having their therapist prepare the Consultant/Coach, or to be present for an important session.  They can work with the Consultant/Coach as a team.  Between the two, and the inter-actions with the horse, you can work wonders with clients.
