Pa. Location Search & 'Journey'

Our Program had to find a safe -functional facility --for the clients!

We kept passing this particular road, receiving a 'calling' to go up this road, that we had already traveled, without finding anything. About 15-16 trips past this road, we were led by this calling, and did not go there again, however:

We went to town meeting halls seeking property for rent or lease-purchase. I showed this gentleman our program, and he heard our plea. He stopped, turned, went to his desk, and picked up a card, that he slowly handed us. He stated: "Give this man a call, he might be able to help you"

On calling, this man wanted to see us, right away, so I left to present the program to him, thinking that perhaps he knew someone that might have property. I met with him, and his lovely wife. They listened intently. Then he, being a realtor, showed us photos of properties, that we could not afford. We needed to rent, perhaps with an option.

Both he and his wife sensed the importance of our meeting, and he then reached under his desk, and pulled out a paper showing a place that would have been great. It had an indoor ring, and an apartment over the would-be stalls.

He spoke of his plans, and then set back into his chair, stating, "Oh, we don't know what we are going to do with it, we might sell it or rent it" I leaned forward, saying, "Can we see it?" He asked, "When do you want to see it?"   I said: "As soon as possible". He slammed his hands on the table, smiled, and said, "Let's GO!"

To my disbelief, he turned right onto that road! The building even had a rose colored roof!

God said "it would all be okay" and now, we knew why! We all fought emotion, not really understanding where all this would lead us.

The building was not complete. Could we WAIT, until it was completed? This was approaching winter, and we would have no business anyway, so we stated we would. The couple that were going to purchase the 44 acres, were also with us. We were ALL excited about the possibilities.

The couple who owned this new facility were awesome Christian people, and they had to now figure out the details. They wanted to see our horses, and it was embarrassing to tell them the story.

During the next week, they drove by, and were naturally horrified that we were existing like this. This was an emergency location, as a hold-over until we could find a proper facility! See the Story behind the story, to see why and how we got to this very limited place. They understandably grew in doubt, and sent a letter to the couple who went with us.

We had nothing to loose by speaking the truth, so we sent a letter stating that "Our program is God's work, and we will find another location somehow, IF they change their minds. No matter what, we had to Trust God, who has informed us that He is IN CHARGE!"

This was apparently what they wanted to hear. They even came to help us get water from the stream --for our horses, using their truck. They realized our situation, and helped us to find another temporary lay-over location, until the building was completed!

This couple were like angels from heaven. They did everything for us. Everything! They are truly people of God, and they sacrificed much for us. They were there when the founder had to work through some physical problems, and without their help, the founder would not have survived! They NEVER said an unkind word or made anyone feel bad about what was happening! They too, TRUSTED GOD! When the program is finally established as it should be, if it is God's will, I am sure that He will also Bless this wonderful couple, and their wonderful family, and friends. Meanwhile we all are just making our way through this time, until God steps in --again.

This time, when God steps in, everyone will know just who has been behind our every move!

What made us feel better, were their comments that we desperately needed help, and that we had received very little. They were very disturbed about this.

They asked us all the right questions, and also the difficult ones. They understood the mental health implications of our programs, and suggested that we write all this on paper, to document, because so much was only in my own mind.  They gave us the time to do so.

We moved into this new facility MAY 6, 2000. My birthday!

The overwhelming work to get established as a non-profit org. and the need for qualified volunteer, and fundraisers etc, led the founder down a lonely and very difficult path of many 16-18 hour days, seven (7) days a week. The founder put up the horses for the rent, believing that the program would get up and going within the year!

The property owner stated: "What is more important, the horses or the program?"

The founder knew that this was a God-Given Program from the Search of 1982, and knew that it was the Program that must be protected, and believed in FIRST! The 'family' of horses were NOW second or third, to the clients. The founder was not even in this picture.

As time went by, the suggestion came for us to sell --10 of our family of horses --and to work with the property owner, in the horse business, and of course --to also do what we could for the program.

This would mean boarding horses and to lease-out horses for trails. This was directly in opposition to what we have created, as a personal service program for healing, and therapeutic work for people, and of course, --the horse.

EVERY client, we suggested this to, just to get their take on this, felt extremely uncomfortable with the public availability and attention to their sessions, as in sharing the arena, and being observed by on-lookers. They opposed this move, because of the intensity of their work within. We heard their pleas.

HOW could we SELL '10' of our 'family' --that have helped so many?

HOW could we just keep the ones that were regularly used?

How could we NOT have horses to work up to, --for self esteem etc.?

We fought to save the horses, as a 'family', as long as we possibly could, --in any way we could. They would have been sold at auction, split up, leaving the life we so have promoted, 'family', entering a life of unknowns.

They had been a 'family' to the lonely, and the hurting.

A 'family; to those going through difficult times!

A 'family' they could DEPEND ON, whenever hearts were broken.

To split up this family, was something the founder would NOT DO!

She would WALK-AWAY, before seeing this dilemma take place!

She would walk away, before selling each horse, for a personal profit!

The non-profit was very difficult to work alone, and the contributions did not support the program enough, to keep the facility, or, to even keep the horses!

Without the support of the Community, and York County, Pa, with the much promised and needed volunteer help, this program would come to a halt!

There was the possibility of a New York firm buying our program in assistance to their own attempt for a DETOX center for Mental Health. This too was delayed. It did not come --IN TIME!

The founder had to make the decision to sell the horses, or to walk away, trusting God --as always.

She decided to just walk away!

On that Last day, the property owner decided to keep 7 horses for himself. Another supporter of the program purchased 7 other horses to take to their own new farmette. There was another 'person' who sought to purchase the horses that would have done the most for clients, in the long run.

This entire story will be made available to the right person, at the right time.

All 21 horses were so-called sold to people that we knew. 7 horses at each location. 7 horses at 3 locations! God was there on this last day, as promised!

The founder sacrificed EVERYTHING! All for the stability of the program:

the 'clients,

the quality of the program,

the 'family' of horses, who now had to go on to people college --to live in that 'other world called society, and the traditional, conventional, come what may. What would happen to them --if I died? I guess --the same thing.

AND, to not conform to the so called norm, that society predicts!

Ours --is a 'Cutting Edge Program', ahead of its time in the state/county [York, Pa.] that would prefer seeing you make your OWN way for 20 years --before they would support what they see as advantageous to/for the mentally ill, or the troubled teen. This 'system' would also cause 'too many delays' for our program --to exist without the proper financial help.

I was told that IF York County didn't like you --they would get rid of you!

I found that there were only a few 'money people' that seemed to own the County, and they pulled all the strings. I began to see this for myself. Why stay in an area like that. They just want you to 'get-in-line' and to take small hand-outs --to see if you WILL get -in-line and live in-the-box --they would have you exist in.

One gentleman said --"If I didn't get-in-line, I would have to do it ALONE." I said: Well, I guess that is what I am going to do then. I will NOT get in their lines!

Another woman, who also wrote us an article, stated: "You know Rose, you don't fit-in here [in York County] because 'they can't put you in-a box!" I then said : "And, they never will."

I was even informed of a 9 million dollar 'therapeutic horse operation' was going up in York County, and that I should consider working with or for them. My thoughts were, that 'I would not undersell our program to a money-monger cash cow program that did little for the people, and more for the SHOW!'

I had found that too many non-profits just work together to shake each others hand for monetary gain, and they did VERY VERY LITTLE for the actual client, who the programs were supposed to be for anyway.

I heard that someone from United Way had pocketed over $465,000.00 in one year!

Another woman stated "You had better not knock United Way, they can be very helpful" Then, she stated that she: had "raised $6,000.00 in 6 years." Then, I asked "what did you do with that much money." She stated that she 'bought that big building.' I said "That didn't take 6 million dollars". then, she said she "had to pay staff, and handle all the volunteer". I said "Volunteer work for NOTHING".

It ended up that she just stammered, and faltered, knowing that I just didn't buy it! She too had pocketed much of the money! That is what she meant by being VERY HELPFUL!

The owner of that new facility stated:

"Your story is a good one, and when it is heard, it will be spread all over the country, even farther"

He also knew the personal story of the founder, because he asked so many questions.

God has His Plan!

He has given the founder the time to write this story, and to prepare the program fully. There was absolutely too much pressure for one person alone!

We told that property owner that --'the REAL STORY' would come, when we definitely have the proper 'teaching' facility, AND, we get ALL or MOST of the horses back together, as the 'family' they were, to continue to do what they have been 'destined' to do,

--helping people to uncover their inner-most desires, and

--helping clients to re-examine their behavior, without the use of traditional/conventional 'training', techniques or medications.

The website is what was needed, to begin getting the story out there, and to gain the needed support by volunteer and new Board Members, to continue as a non-profit org. to benefit many many abused/confused people.

We took the necessary time off, still working, toward the constant goal, and the Training Programs, etc. to teach others:

I realized I should have clones to teach as we have. the idea came to start a workbook to help others learn to do as we have to help others. No one was doing this, even though NAHRA now had EPHMA for Equestrian Mental Health programs. They were no farther ahead of things than we were. We were neck and neck. I realized what was needed, vs what we offered, and our teaching process was made more clear, as to what we had to do to get others doing our program. We need more Horse Holiday Consultants.

NAHRA and EPHMA had to begin setting standards for those who did not have the talent or the 'spirit' for the programs like we do. We would STILL be very different from either of them, so we think --???

August 2000 to 2001- Learn more about using the computer, and start learning how-to do a website.

2002-2003 We established a beginning website --to just get all the thoughts on paper. We edited, deleted etc continuously. This is an on-going process. We gave the site over to a web-developer, and just got totally out-of-control of what we intended for the site, PLUS we could do nothing TO the site anymore. What he did do, would not publish with Bizland, who we had our site with. So, all his hard work was in vain! Plus he had so many diddies, that the pages just took so very long to load, even I got impatient. This entire process took a year, and another 6 months to copy all the pages and to re-do them over again so I had control back. Plus he took most of my pictures off the site. That is what I loved so much, but then again--they too took too long to load for people to see, and they would probably just shut us off to go to another site. I did learn quite alot through this entire process.

As of 2004, we have the first workbook for 'Fresh Start' and the photos of actual students, and all their trials and tribulations, not the should be pictures.

2005 --We started to get HHC Sign-ups --to learn the how-to. [We moved several more times in this process of 5 more years, all with the program as our primary time efforts.]

2006 --We moved to Lewisville, near Fair Hill, Maryland, then placed the workbook On-Line --with color photos. Moved from there, to Lewistown, in Central Pa. when we realized that clients would just pass us by, because there was no 'atmosphere' so sought after, and needed by our clients. Lewistown, became a work in progress, however we were left with no possibility to start our programs to start bringing in some funds to operate with, so, by divine intervention, we were able to move once again --to 'Where the Eagles Fly'...in McClure, Pa. at the base of Bald Eagle Forest.

2007 -- Let's see what is ahead!!!
