DEFENSIVE RIDING PROGRAM

                      ---alone or in company

We can be horrified by circumstance that can get of our control,

when riding in public,  or in a group trail ride.  Group riding can be very hazardous.

Therefore -- Riding Etiquette must be learned.

This program will give you control over any situation that can occur.

Tell your horror stories.  Receive an education in riding Survival Skills,

and as the program unfolds  -we give you an avenue for escape --from trouble or trauma.

First, know your horse, and your riding abilities -or lack of them.

                                                         Admit to your in-abilities -please!

I recommend the `Safety Oriented' Program (Fresh Start)                                                        An un-expected jump, bareback!

                                                            --before signing for Defensive Riding.

You MUST first be sure -that the relationship you have with the horse you're riding that day, is trusting and confidence.  Is the horse safe?  Does that horse have any problems?  Does the horse have good communication skills with people?  Or is that horse (sadly, like so many others) --responding in self-defense and/or fear when with other horses or riders, who may have been abusive. Do you or your riding companions have the ability to respond in a positive and safe way?

Will you be the responsible rider, or the victim?

Riders will think things are under control -because they have learned to ride in an enclosed riding ring or with caring family. They feel safe, thinking their horse is their new friend, however THINGS CHANGE, when we are threatened by another horse or rider's behavior, when there is a stranger involved, or when riding in a different environment.

By instinct, the horse recognizes behavior patterns.  They can sense danger, fear, bad energy, or discomfort from others  --horse or human. They will respond, to their natural instincts, impulses, and suspicions, as we (should be able to) do.

In addition, we must recognize and control our own behavior.

Defensive Riding is a VITAL Program.

LEARN TO AVOID THE TRAPS

TRAPS can get you hurt, with people, riders, situations, obstacles, traffic, and other horses.  This includes who is riding --next to you?

What would you do: if you rode alone, received a broken ankle, due to a fall, and had to get to a phone before dark?  What if, after you finally mounted, your horse didn't want to take the short cut home?

What would you do:  --when the person who lends you a horse, wants to gallop off and expects you to just hang on, and follow?

This program offers the COMMON SENSE answers NOW, NOT after tragedy hits, and-you must learn the hard way, by trial & error!  BEFORE you DO learn defensive riding you could be tragically hurt!
