Traditional
VS Natural Horsemanship
The most
damaging phrase in the language is: 'It's always been done that way.'
- Grace Murray Hopper
We
aim to show you the difference,
to encourage a more compassionate approach to groundwork, riding the
horse, and the relationship between horse and human.
We
believe traditional programs leave much to be
desired.
We also believe that the 'business' of
horses should be handled at a much higher level --than witnessed over the years.
Let's upgrade our standards.
The
life of the horse in our culture has many
phases, too often it is extremely sad.
We hope to heighten the desire to know the
horse at a higher level, encouraging deeper caring for their
welfare.
My
wish is to eliminate the attitude of the 'throw-away' or 'service'
horse, making any and all horses -recipients of good
homes, and caring people. Don't they deserve this?
From 1972, the founder was scuffed at, and
criticized, because there was no need for her to follow the traditional methods.
Her horses wanted to please her and to learn new things. They enjoyed
sharing their time with her, and wanted to work with and for her.
An example: On day three of riding
her thourobred mare, she rode this horse over to the hunt club. The horse
could turn, stop, go forward and stop, and also wanted to be with her owner and
friend (the founder).
At the hunt club a riding
instructor there was horrified that this was done so quickly, and also without
riding in the company of another older horse. The founder stated: "I
am her company" and she meant it. This was highly mis-understood, and
frowned upon.
The mare just stood there while this
conversation took place. This is NOT what is done traditionally,
primarily, because the real \'relationship with the horse-- and the sharing of
ideas with the horse -does not take place traditionally.
Human control
is more prominent with the conventional or traditional riding, without really
considering the individual horse. There has been a real lack of
understanding in the horse world, much to the disagreement of many so called
horseman. REAL Horseman --forgive me, but I am sure that you understand my
intentions here. Educate!
Natural horsemanship was looked upon as
'below standard'.
Needless to say,
natural horsemanship is
finally making itself re-known, with greater interest from novice as well as
seasoned horseman, because of the quality of work that takes place between the
natural horse and natural rider.

Is it so bad to be
misunderstood?
Pythagoras was
misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo,
and Newton, (and Kucinich) and every pure and wise spirit that ever took
flesh.
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson
